Basic Bed Linen Information
Sizes below refer to bedding staple sizes meaning the items your bedding pieces will cover.
Sheet sizes vary by designer and manufacturer. Flat sheets will vary by length & width and fitted sheets by depth. Most fitted sheets will fit mattresses up to 14 inch depth and extra deep fitted sheets will fit 16-18 inch or
greater depth depending on manufacturer.
Pillowcases are sized 2-4 inches longer than the actual pillow size to give ample cover over the end of your pillows.

Buying fabric by the yard in most designer lines is very expensive. Consider using sheets or pillowcases for your sewing needs. Manufacturer estimated equivalents are listed below:

Many do not consider the fabric in bedskirts for use in making custom bedding. Although most bedskirts have only a 14 " drop, ruffled skirts are gathered using 2 to 3 times the amount of fabric giving you plenty of fabric to make cording, ruffles or
trim for
pillows, drapes, valances or shams, and pieced and/or quilted shams, pillows, quilts, etc. Crib bedskirts normally have a 13" drop.
